December 21, 2008: The song "Hallelujah", as recorded by Alexandra Burke, became the #1 song in the UK and remained there for 3 weeks. The version recorded by Leonard Cohen, who wrote the song, also made it onto the charts at approximately the same time and a third version, recorded by Jeff Buckley, held the #2 spot right behind Burke's cover. "Hallelujah" has been recorded more than 300 times; the five best versions, in no particular order, were recorded by Bob Dylan, Jeff Buckley, John Cale, KD Lang & Willie Nelson. Cohen's version is not included in the list as it is widely believed to be untouchable. |

December 21, 2014: Sir Elton John weds longtime partner David Furnish. The ceremony took place at their Windsor estate in Berkshire, England, and was witnessed by a "who's who" of celebrities. Sir Elton John and Furnish were previously united by a
civil partnership, which was converted to marriage in this ceremony. Sir Elton first described himself as bisexual in a 2016 Rolling Stones interview (he later revised his status as gay); the revelation shocked mainstream audiences and his career
suffered for a time until he recorded 1979's "Momma Can't Buy You Love" (#9 on the Billboard Hot 100) and 1983's "I Guess That’s Why They Call it the Blues",
his first Top 5 hit song since 1976.
